Best Player Soccer Academy triumph New Straits Times, Jul 19, 2010 | by Ajitpal Singh THEIR name suggested they had the best players. And so it was. Best Player Soccer Academy (BPSA) duly won the NST-Junior Community League at the KLFA Stadium in Cheras yesterday. The Penang-based club beat Soccerkids-MBSA Academy 2-1 to lift the Sultan Ahmad Shah trophy and pocket RM10,000. Mohd Zikri Mohd Haris scored BPSA's first goal with a brilliant header, off a corner kick, after five minutes. BPSA wasted several scoring opportunities and they were punished following a defensive blunder by their goalkeeper Muhd Saiful Niza Nasir after his defensive clearance hit the back of Soccerkids striker Muhd Nasrin Shah in the 22nd minute. Ahmad Rajaie Mohd Nasir hit the winner for BPSA in the 37th minute. BPSA coach Wan Azli Wan Teh said: "We did not do too well during the start of the league but we managed to find our momentum in the knockout stages. "It was a nail-biting final as both teams were good. However, my players managed to keep their nerves to claim the title." In the third placing play-off, Majlis Bandaran Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) edged CIMB Bintang Muda 4-3 on penalties after the match ended 0-0 in regulation time. BPSA keeper Muhd Saiful Niza was named Man of the Match while Bintang Biru Academy's Faisal Abdul Halim was honoured with the Player of the Tournament award. Najib Abdullah, who represented Jasmine Putra United, was named the tournament's top scorer with 34 goals while MUKL's Amir Bin Azmi walked away with the Best Goalkeeper award. Akademi Gen Pro, APS Bintang Biru and Jasmine Putra United were jointly awarded the Fair Play Trophy. |
