Best Player Soccer Academy triumph

New Straits Times, Jul 19, 2010 | by Ajitpal Singh

THEIR name suggested they had the best players. And so it was.

Best Player Soccer Academy (BPSA) duly won the NST-Junior Community League at the KLFA Stadium in Cheras yesterday.

The Penang-based club beat Soccerkids-MBSA Academy 2-1 to lift the Sultan Ahmad Shah trophy and pocket RM10,000.

Mohd Zikri Mohd Haris scored BPSA's first goal with a brilliant header, off a corner kick, after five minutes.

BPSA wasted several scoring opportunities and they were punished following a defensive blunder by their goalkeeper Muhd Saiful Niza Nasir after his defensive clearance hit the back of Soccerkids striker Muhd Nasrin Shah in the 22nd minute.

Ahmad Rajaie Mohd Nasir hit the winner for BPSA in the 37th minute.

BPSA coach Wan Azli Wan Teh said: "We did not do too well during the start of the league but we managed to find our momentum in the knockout stages.

"It was a nail-biting final as both teams were good. However, my players managed to keep their nerves to claim the title."

In the third placing play-off, Majlis Bandaran Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) edged CIMB Bintang Muda 4-3 on penalties after the match ended 0-0 in regulation time.

BPSA keeper Muhd Saiful Niza was named Man of the Match while Bintang Biru Academy's Faisal Abdul Halim was honoured with the Player of the Tournament award.

Najib Abdullah, who represented Jasmine Putra United, was named the tournament's top scorer with 34 goals while MUKL's Amir Bin Azmi walked away with the Best Goalkeeper award.

Akademi Gen Pro, APS Bintang Biru and Jasmine Putra United were jointly awarded the Fair Play Trophy.

SOCCERKIDS AND BP ACADEMY BOOK FINAL DATE

Akademi Soccerkids-MBSA and newcomers BP Soccer Academy booked themselves a final date of the New Straits Times Junior Football League 2010 in contrasting styles in the knockout rounds played on Sunday 11 July at the Institute Kraf Negara pitch in Templers Park.

Akademi Soccerkids MBSA who finished in third place last season once again proved to be CIMB-YFA Bintang Muda waterloo when they once again sent the pre tournament favourites packing for a second season in a row with a 3-0 penalty kicks semi-final win.  For CIMB-YFA who were on high spirits after a team visit by CIMB Group CEO Dato Nazir Razak , to be defeated again by Soccerkids was bitter pill to swallow after an impressive run in group play and than seeing off UKRC 2-1 in the round of sixteen and Jasmine Junior FC 2-0 in the quarter-finals.

It's anyone game as team First Kick and Team KBRB battle for the ball

DINESH DOES IT FOR CIMB-YFA

CIMB-YFA Bintang Muda’s wing wizard Dinesh Raja Singham was the toast of his team when his late strike secured a 1-0 win over archrivals Akademi Soccerkids- MBSA in Group A action of the New Straits Times Junior Football League played on Sunday at the Institute Kraf Negara pitch in Templers Park.

CIMB-YFA who in their first match of the day was held to a scoreless draw by defending champions Akademi PKNS FC was out to make amends against Soccerkids. Both teams who have since established a keen rivalry between them ever since last seasons pre-tournament favourites CIMB-YFA were made to eat humble pie when they were dumped out at the quarterfinal stage 1-2 by Soccerkids-MBSA. Even a 2-1 victory for CIMB-YFA in the round one of the league this season just could not heal the pain of that quarterfinal lost.

SWEET REVENGE FOR YFA-BINTANG MUDA

It was sweet revenge for CIMB-YFA Bintang Muda when they defeated BP Soccer Academy 2-0 in Group A action of the New Straits Times Junior Football League played on Sunday at the Dataran MBPJ field in Petaling Jaya.

The CIMB-YFA who suffered a 0-1 loss to BP in round 1 of league play were determined not to be beaten again by their Penang based opponents and CIMB-YFA head coach Radhakrishnan was confident that his boys will triumph this time around as his team was shaping up well and he has his best players available.
