PKNS FC, MAHKOTA, KIDO AND RSC CHECK INTO QUARTER-FINALS

Dateline: November 8th 2009

Action from match between Mahkota FC and YFA-Bintang Muda

Akademi Bolasepak PKNS FC together with Mahkota Football Academy and Kido Kickers Academy secured the remaining quarter-final spots from Group A while Royal Selangor Club (RSC) clinched the sole remaining place in Group B in the final day of league action played on Sunday 8.11.2009.

UKRC, who were in also contention for a place and needing maximum points from their two final matches made life difficult for themselves when the only could muster a scoreless draw against Shah Alam FC.

With UKRC fumbling and hoping the results of the other matches go their way, Kidokickers was the first to take advantage and when they easily defeated Astaka FC 4-0. to move on to 40 points and join Group A leaders YFA-Bintang Muda in the last eight. Next up was Mahkota FA who on 37 points, face a must win situation in their last remaining match in the league against group leaders YFA-Bintang Muda.

It was all action from the first whistle with both teams attacking relentlessly and only the fine defending kept both teams going into the break even. The second half saw Mahkota up the tempo and their determination was finally rewarded in the 34th minute of play when midfielder Abdul Hafiz Irhan, picked up a loose ball 15 meters out and send a scorching right footer past the helpless YFA custodian Muhammad Fazwal and send Mahkota bench and fans into a frenzy. YFA, now staring at only their second defeat, threw all they got in search for the equalizer but just could not find a way through the tight Mahkota defence. The final whistle was greeted with wild celebrations with players, officials and fans celebrating a well deserved win and a place in the last eight.

The next match saw Akademi PKNS FC taking on UKRC. UKRC, after their stumble in the match against Shah Alam FC need an outright win to keep their slim hopes alive while PKNS who only need a point from their final two matches to clinch the last remaining spot. The match ended in a scoreless draw and PKNS then went on to register a 5- 1 win over Astaka FC and seal second place in Group A with 42 points. Mahkota secured 3rd place based on a better head to head result against Kidokickers after both teams were tied on 40 points.

In Group B, Royal Selangor Club (RSC) who only needed a point from their last two matches found the going though in their first match against Jasmine Junior FC. With their supporters out in full force, RSC found themselves back-peddling for most of the first half as Jasmine dominated play and things got worse for RSC when Jasmine took the lead through Alif Emir Ramlan.

Second half RSC slowly getting back into the game and both goalkeepers were kept busy and some fine saves from RSC’s Mohd.Hafizi kept his teams hopes alive. RSC now desperate for the equalizer, launched wave after wave of attacks but was found the league’s best goalkeeper Muhammad Haziq Nadzli in fine form. With time ticking away and the precious point seem a far distance away, RSC threw all they had and in their final foray earned a corner-kick. Skipper and midfield workhorse Ben Howat stepped-up for the kick and to the joy of RSC players and supporters, duly send in a beautifully struck in-swinger that when straight into the back of the net and secure their place in the quarter-final.
